Installing laminate flooring is a snap literally. When deciding the direction to install laminate flooring you have to consider your space lighting and decor. Stay away from turning your wood flooring in different directions in different rooms in an attempt to create interest. Planks can be cut with a hand saw circular saw or flooring cutter and most laminate flooring comes in planks that simply snap together with a tongue.

Continue installing row by row walking or pressing the boards into the sub floor. A laminate floor is a floating floor meaning it is not fastened directly to the subfloor. It makes a house look chopped up and it costs more money to install particularly so in smaller and in open plan homes. It can be installed over any other tightly bonded flooring making it ideal for retrofits.

Line up the flooring pieces on top of the last row of installed planks. If you re installing your flooring on a main floor you will want to float the floor in the same direction. The best direction generally depends primarily on the shape of the house. The laminate flooring will probably need to be cut lengthwise for the last row.

Installing your floor this way is a general rule and common practice in installations. Use a plank and a spacer to trace the contour of the wall onto the board that will be cut. A laminate floor becomes a unifying influence in the overall decor if it runs in the same direction throughout the house.
