If you have adult carpet beetles there is a good chance their larvae are somewhere in your home. If you live in northern virginia or maryland this is the time of year to start looking for carpet beetles. Once their larvae come out of the eggs they start looking to feed on natural fibers dead insects seeds and any milled items they can find. Carpet beetles vary in color based on their species and maturity.

If you have pet dishes filled with dried food then it will be easier for carpet beetles to find the food and actually start living in the dish.
